Mechanism of action

Before taking Zegerid, tell doctor if you:

• Have low magnesium levels in your blood, any liver problems, heart failure, Bartter syndrome (a rare kidney disorder)
• Suffer from any allergies
• Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Sodium bicarbonate (a part of ZEGERID) should be used with caution in nursing mothers.

Empty the contents of a packet of Zegerid Powder for Oral Suspension into a small cup containing 1-2 tablespoons of water. Stir well and drink immediately. Refill cup with water and drink. Donot use other liquids or fluids. Do not open the capsule and sprinkle contents into food. Do not take two doses to make up for a missed dose.

What you must consider before using Nexium

Do not use Nexium, if:

• you are allergic to esomeprazole or other similar proton pump inhibitors, or any of the other ingredients in Nexium.
• you are taking a medicine containing nelfinavir (used to treat HIV).

Possible nexium side effects

Like any medicine Nexium may have side effects, but not everybody gets them. Following are the possible side effects that may be caused due to nexium.

Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) is a among rare nexium side effects which occur in less than 1 in 1,000 people taking Nexium. • Suddenly feeling short of breath and wheezing (bronchospasm).
• Fungal infection in the stomach / intestinal tract.
• Inflammation of the liver with or without jaundice.
• Hair Loss (Alopecia).
• Skin rash when exposed to sun.
• Joint pain (arthralgia) or muscle pain (myalgia).
• Lack of energy.
• Increased sweating.

Very rare Nexium Side Effects (less than 1 in 10,000 people are affected)

• Changes in blood count, including agranulocytosis (lack of white blood cells).
• Aggression.
• Seeing, emotional and auditory Hallucinations.
• Serious liver problems leading to liver failure and inflammation of the brain.
• Suddenly incidence of severe rash, blistering or peeling skin. This may be accompanied by high fever and joint pain.
• Muscle weakness.
• Serious kidney problems.

Nexium may in very rare cases, affect the white blood cells to cause immunodeficiency. If you are having symptoms of fever, problems such as neck pain, pain in the mouth or throat, or difficulty in urination then you must contact your doctor as soon as possible and get yourself tested for lack of white blood cells (agranulocytosis). It is important that you inform your doctor about the medication and the dosage of nexium you are taking.
